Luurs Metalls Course: From February 5-8, Fred was in Valencia, Spain,
to play with the Spanish Brass, teaching and playing solos. A brass
quintet course was also being held there.

Summer 1998

Fred Mills performed and taught at Summit Brass's Raphael Mendez Institute
this June at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
-
From July 16 to 25, Fred performed and directed masterclasses at
the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival in Oneonta, NY. There
was a special Brass Spectacular on July 25, featuring the "Bulldog Brass"
and the "Festival Brass Quintet".This group includes Fred Mills, Dan Perantoni
(tuba professor, Indiana University), Tom Bacon (horn professor, Arizona
State), Larry Zalkind (solo trombone, Utah Symphony), and Tim Morrison
(former solo trumpet with the Boston Pops, and presently free-lance artist
in Hollywood, California, movie studios). All five gentlemen also performed
on the brass faculty solo recital July 23.

From July 27 to August 10, Fred Mills was in Australia with
the "New World Brass Quintet". The "World" includes Michael
Thompson (horn soloist, English Chamber Orchestra) , Floyd Cooley (tuba,
San Francisco Symphony), Paul Goodchild (solo trumpet, Sydney Opera), and
Michael Mulcahy (trombone, Chicago Symphony) & Mills. The Australian
National Academy of Music was the hosts to a course for 25 of the best
young Australian brass players in Melbourne for a 2 week residency. The
"World" gave solo recitals, masterclasses and quintet concerts in Melbourne.

Jever Brass Academy: Fred Mills gave masterclasses Sept 16-20 along
with a solo appearance with a quintet from the "World Brass". This quintet
had a night free from their busy German tour.

Fred recorded a CD with Rennquintett,
a German brass quintet. Mills and More is released now. See
